Yes, Virginia, this is an election year

Every two years the American politics industry fills the airwaves with the most virulent, scurrilous, wall-to-wall character assassination of nearly every political practitioner in the country – and then declares itself puzzled that America has lost trust in its politicians.

American physician, journalist, and author, Charles Krauthammer, was born on this day in 1950.

Of course, the problem is that it’s never MY favorite politician that’s the problem…it’s the other guys.

But, when campaign season comes we’re the ones who have to sort through all of the garbage and decide up or down, left or right, right or wrong…etc…and that takes some time and effort on our part.

I’ll get right to that just as soon as I finish this Buzzfeed test to determine what kind of butterfly I am.

If the world worked the way it should, we would have politicians telling us what they really believe and what they really intend to do.

Yes, even a fiction writer knows that it has to be believable.

It’s Tuesday and this week there’s no time to sort out politics or play silly quizzes on the Interwebz.

We’re off this evening to an alumni reception for our University.

And I’m in the final stages of casting the show I’m directing. As I’m writing this, I have hopes that all will be accomplished by the time you read it.

We’ll see.

But the show, as they say, must go on.

Since A Little Piece of Heaven closed on Sunday, I now have a window of opportunity to be working on only one show at a time.

Yes, I’m already scheduled to direct at least one show next year.  You’ll be told when I can.

And, it’s becoming increasingly likely that my original script will be produced, meaning I’ll need to be around as a consultant.

On top of all that, while most seasons have not been announced, I am sort of aware of at least one opportunity to act next fall.

Opportunity. I still have to audition.

Politics…ain’t nobody got time for that….

And, yet, because most of us don’t take the time, we get the government we deserve.

So, my eyes and ears remain opened, and I work to be informed.

You should, too.

Because, with all due respect to Mr. Krauthammer, just like every year in Virginia, this is an election year.

You owe it to yourself, and to your country, to be an educated voter.

Know the candidates. Know the issues. And weed through the piles of…stuff…that will be shoveled out this fall.

Otherwise, we get the government we deserve.

And nobody wants that.

In other news, American singer-songwriter and pianist, Neil Sedaka, was born on this day in 1939.
