Disappointment and Promises

We are on day 144 of 15 days to slow the spread.

This is not the post I was planning to write.

True story, I’d already almost finished another post but it was just sounding a little too whiny.

In the grand scheme of things, as much as 2020 totally sucks, I’m still pretty fortunate.

Also, true story, since they were my words, even if I don’t post them here, I put them toward my daily thousand-word goal.

Why the whine, especially today?

We all have our lists of what we’re missing this year. I’ve told you that I miss theater, the amusement park, church, and more.

Yesterday, we got the expected, but still hard to take, news that Kings Dominion will not be opening for 2020.

In a normal year, I’d be working there on weekends and writing here about the struggle of keeping a daily writing routine whilst working seven days a week.

The Write Side Shop

I’d like to be writing that post right about now.

We’d all like to be doing a lot of things differently right now.

For me, the news from Kings Dominion is a disappointment and an economic inconvenience. I will miss my friends, and I really do enjoy working and performing there.

For others, my two adult sons included, this is yet another economic hardship. I know the performers that I work with in Winterfest have already been through months of no performance contracts and financial struggles of their own.

We’ve all got friends and relatives out there in the same situation.

Check on the folks in your life.

One of the folks I’m thankful for is my blog friend Tom Vander Well. Tom writes daily about a chapter in the Bible at his blog Wayfarer.

He’s also a theater geek and we’ve been corresponding across the Innnertubz for years now. Earlier this year, we actually “met” face to face in a Zoom meeting where we did a cold read of a script he’s working on.

I always enjoy reading Tom’s post, today was particularly helpful.

Much Needed Affirmation

The promises of the Lord are promises that are pure,
silver refined in a furnace on the ground,
purified seven times.

Psalm 12:6 (NRSVCE)

In the quiet this morning, I’m thankful for David’s little ditty. It reminds me that we are not the first generation of humanity to think everything was going to hell in a handbasket. I am not the only one who needs regular doses of healthy affirmation. God’s got this. I can believe it, and I can mentally run to that affirmation as many times as I need to today as I press on in the journey one more day.

Thanks, Tom.
