One Day More

Dutch-French painter and illustrator, Vincent van Gogh, was born on this day in 1853 (died 1890).

It’s hard to misquote someone who doesn’t say anything.

American actor, director, producer, and screenwriter, Warren Beatty, was born on this day in Richmond, Virginia.

Warren has a point.

I posted the other day that my Facebook memories told me I used to think I could win a political argument on the Interwebz.

I chuckled at how cute I used to be.

There are still times when I see something on the Internet that is so wrong I immediately want to fire off a correction.

But while I’ll still post an occasional snark, or let The Babylon Bee do it for me, most days I just scroll on.

No matter how wrong you are.

I’d say you know who you are, but it’s rather obvious that you do not.

Like you, I have one more day of work this week. After today, of course.

Perhaps unlike you, I don’t have another day of work until Monday, April 10.

As I’ve mentioned, we’re headed to the Outer Banks next week for seven days of watching the ocean.

Weather permitting we’ll watch it from the deck or the sand.

We’ll consume seafood, adult entertainment beverages, and maybe work on the reading or projects we’re taking.

I might even come back and write about it.

Maybe.

Earlier this week I mentioned that another friend was near death.  Yesterday, just before 3:00 a.m. he walked into the arms of Jesus.

Hey Neighbor

On this day in 1871, Queen Victoria, opened Royal Albert Hall.

I contend that the strongest of all governments is that which is most free.

American and Virginian, lawyer and politician,
and 10th President of the United States, John Tyler, was born on this day in 1790. (died 1862).

President John Tyler was one of eight U.S. Presidents who came from Virginia, which still holds the record for the most Presidents from one state…er Commonwealth.

And still where it all really began in spite of that silly Philadelphia phrase used a number of years ago. We’d never have made it to Independence Hall without the Virginians…who wrote most of everything.

I never really knew much about Tyler other than the fact that he had a local community college named after him. But call it what you will, political correctness, wokeness, people with too much time on their handsness, John Tyler Community College is now Brightpoint Community College.

Bright. Point.

Look, I’m not going to argue whether or not the name change was appropriate. But seriously, if you’re going to make a boneheaded move like that, come up with something better than Brightpoint.

It’s a little embarrassing.

I digress.

‘Tis midweek and I am weary of reading the news.

You likely are as well.

I want to read, and argue, and comment, and…but no, I’m not going to.

I’m going to continue to pray, and continue to do what I can to make this world a better place.

When asked about the greatest commandment…

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

When they asked him who their neighbor was, he told the story of the Good Samaritan.

You know, the story about helping the person(s) you’re not supposed to like.

That’s the only way we get through this folks.

When the next, inevitable, tragedy occurs, don’t rush to your keyboard to start slinging accusations and pushing your own political agenda.

Call a neighbor, take a co-worker out for coffee, walk your dog.
