You know what they say, the first five days after the vacation are always the hardest.

Also, there was room for two on that door.

I love the Facebook memories feature. Sometimes I cringe at what I posted when both the Interent and I were young.

Most of the time, the memories are good. But lately, I’ve also been reading the comments.

I’m struck by how many friends with whom I communicated regularly on Facebook are no longer with us.

I’m glad for the time we had together, even if it was online.

I wish we’d had more in person time.

On this day in 1865, U.S. President Abraham Lincoln was shot in Ford’s Theatre by John Wilkes Booth. Lincoln died the following day.

Finally, for now, I can’t believe I went through Holy Week and Resurrection Sunday without posting this favorite.


Thursday Musings

On this day in 1943, The Jefferson Memorial is dedicated in Washington, D.C., on the 200th anniversary of President Thomas Jefferson’s birth.

I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that his justice cannot sleep forever.

American lawyer, politician, and 3rd President of the United States, Thomas Jefferson, was born on this day in 1743 (died 1826).

I missed getting to DC to see the cherry blossoms this year. In fact, I’ve missed them for several years.

Living there for eight years, the spring when the cherry trees bloomed was always a favorite time. With the majestic buildings and the trees in full bloom, you almost forgot that the city was absolutely, blooming if you will, crazy.

I used to think about moving back. Then we went back for a visit and got caught in the traffic. Not to mention that we couldn’t afford our house in the DC area.

True, over the years I’ve worked for two potential Presidential candidates and if the stars had aligned differently, well, maybe. And no, I won’t tell you who they were.

If you know, you know. If you don’t know, you don’t really need to know.

Here in Richmond spring is in full bloom and the pollen is there to prove it. Even the air looks a little yellow.

I washed the (red) Jeep when we got back from the beach but, thanks to the pollen, it needs another bath. I’ll wait a few days.

I love spring…and summer. I’m not one to complain about the heat when it hits triple digits. Well, I might, but I’ll still trade it for the cold.

We’re back from vacation less than a week and I’m already feeling the pressure of the schedule. I have my own list of projects and then I keep getting contacted about new projects.

I want to do them all.

I’m not sure I can do them all.

We’ll see.

I have a pretty aggressive list for the weekend. On Monday, I may tell you how I did with it.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not complaining about being busy. I may be complaining internally about still having

to go to the day job, but even that’s going pretty well these days.

Even though I don’t believe in jinxes, I’m hesitate to speculate on why things seem to be going well…or perhaps not.

My three words for 2023 are Pray…Prepare…Play. Let’s just say that I’m doing all three.

Since my church began the year with 21 Days of Prayer I have made it a point every morning to spend time in the Word and in prayer. Sure, there have been other times in my life that I’ve done the same. It’s just that in recent months, I’ve been more focused.

Read into that what you will. Prayer isn’t a magic formula. It’s not telling God anything He doesn’t know. But as much as I believe that prayer changes things, I believe most of all that it changes me.

End of sermon. If you came in buses, they’ll wait.

Being up consistently early has also helped with the Prepare part of those three words. And, of course, last week was all about Play.

None of which I will have time for if I don’t wrap this up and get to the weekend list.

I had my first rehearsal for Sound of the Guns at Firehouse Theatre this week.

I am very much going to enjoy working on this show.

You are very much going to enjoy seeing it.

Tickets will go on sale later in April.

Yes, I’ll let you know.

I had not anticipated being back on stage this year prior to the upcoming events of the fall…if you know, you know.

But even when one of your three words is Prepare, you still need to be flexible.

I have some amazing friends who have banded together to take care of the population of feral cats and kittens at Kings Dominion, either through getting the adults the treatment they need (shots, etc.) or rehoming kittens. My friends are working with the park and a host of volunteers to make this happen.

I’ve had the chance to help out just a bit by drawing some of the kittehs. You can help by purchasing some of the products on the KD Kitties Redbubble page.
