Another fun read

Timeline by Michael Crichton.

Maybe it’s the winter months and the fact that I’ve been a little more deliberate about signging off the Internet. But tonight I finished Timeline.

Timeline is a blend of science fiction and action. When I realized that it’s basis lies in secretive research being conductd by a large corporation with multiple sites and archaeological digs, I had to wonder if some of the creator’s of ABC’s LOST had read the book.

In Timeline, the travel to 13th Century France isn’t considered time travel, but traveling to other universes. When they’re Professor abruptly leaves their research site in France, his graduate assistants are concerned. A few hours later they’re told to get on a plane, not to bother packing anything. At the remove site in New Mexico they’re assured over and over that this type of travel is completely safe. Nothing could go wrong.

You didn’t believe that, did you?

The book is a well written, quick read. And that’s a good thing, because you’ll find it hard to put down. After all, who could put down a thriller that involves science fiction travel to another century, damsels in distress, knights in shining armor trying to do each other in, a mysterious monestary and more?

And now it means I have to go back to the library tomorrow.

The bipartisan bill is sponsored by Maine Sen. Susan Collins, the ranking Republican on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. The bill — called “The Protecting Cyberspace As A National Asset Act of 2010” S.3480 — was approved by a Senate panel this week.
