American film television and stage actress, Glenn Close was born on this day in 1947.

Following her first film role in The World According to Garp in 1982, she went on to appear in The Big Chill and The Natural. All three performances earned her nominations for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She has been nominated six times, tying Deborah Kerr and Thelma Ritter as the actress most often nominated who has never won. However, she has earned three Tonys, an Obie, three Emmys, two Golden Globes and a Screen Actors Guild Award. She has also been nominated for a Grammy Award three times and once for a BAFTA.

Othe favorite roles include Fatal Attraction, 101 Dalmations, Air Force One and television performances in Sarah, Plain and Tall and South Pacific.

This is our favorite Glenn Close role.
