God bless the USA

thislandToday our country celebrates 237 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

We remain the greatest, most peaceful, most generous, most free nation in the history of mankind.

Yes, we’ve had our struggles, our years of doing things the wrong way. But we’re Americans, and we have always worked to make it better.

We have done that because of our belief in freedom, and our belief in God.

Don’t even argue with me about whether not our founders intended to make this a Christian nation. They did not. They intended to make this a nation where we are free to worship and believe as we will, or will not.

But there is absolutely no question that our founding fathers believed in a Creator, a Supreme Being…God. And there is no question that they based the foundations of this country on an adherence to Judeo-Christian values and beliefs.

To believe otherwise is, at best, historical revision. At worst, fantasy.

We neglect those foundations at our own peril. We may disagree on what those beliefs are, how they should be applied.

But, Ronald Reagan said it best:

“If we ever forget that we’re one nation under God, then we will be one nation gone under.”

~ Ronald Reagan
