American actor, comedian, and producer, Tim Allen, was born on this day in 1953.

I need to watch Galaxy Quest again. Just because I can always use some laughs.

The first time we saw Galaxy Quest was in late January of 2000. Due to a winter storm, we lost power during the Super Bowl. The next night (Monday) rather than freezing in the house, yet again, we went out to dinner and a movie. Yes, the older boy was in fifth grade. But, we had power, and heat, when we came home.

Just two weeks later, the younger boy was born. He’s eighteen now and just graduated (with honors) from high school.

I guess I’m getting a little braggy.

But, that should surprise none of you who follow me regularly on social media.

And, if you’re not following me, can you please give me a good reason why not?

I said a good reason.

Truth is, it probably looks like I spend a lot of time on social media.

Probably because I do.

And it probably looks like I talk about myself and about my work and projects a lot.

Probably because I do.

But the reality is, I’m my own marketing department.

If I didn’t tell you about all the wonderful projects I’m involved with, who would?

No one is going to volunteer to be my public relations and marketing manager.

So, I have to do it myself.

See, what you think (or judge? Shame on you) to be me wasting time on Facebook, or Instagram or Twitter (and yes, you should be following me on all of those), is really a concentrated effort to get your attention.

So that, when the show I’m directing opens, as Doublewide, Texas did week before last (and you have four more chances to see it at CAT Theatre).

Or when the script I wrote goes up on stage with River City Community Players this fall.

Or when the next show I’m directing, A Doublewide, Texas Christmas, opens on November 30 at CAT Theatre.

Or when I get that novel published, or that artwork complete…you get the idea.

Then, you’ll know about it. And hopefully do something about it.

I’d love for life to be all about the art of writing, directing, acting, and creating, and just have the masses flock to the ticket booth or the bookstore.

But it just doesn’t work that way.

Vanity? Sure.

Necessity? Also sure.

Truth is, I’m working my way through the best ways to promote my work. There are programs I could buy or “invest in” but I just haven’t found the right one.

Instead, I’ll keep posting here, and on Facebook, and on Instagram…and…you get the idea.

One of the things I’m trying to figure out is how to develop that writing and consulting income to the point that taking the early retirement version of the pension and Social Security makes sense.

Totally not there yet. But, I’ll keep trying.

And no, I’m not paying an expert $499, for today only, to tell me what I need to be doing.

Following that model, I’d be offering you a program for $499, for today only, to tell you how I got rich.

You get the idea.

But enough talking about me. Let’s talk about you.
