But, I don’t like roller coasters

Yes, I used to work at an amusement park. Yes, I’ve spent hours playing Roller Coaster Tycoon.

But, I don’t ride roller coasters. Don’t judge.

Life, on the other hand, does at times seem to be a bit of a roller coaster ride. November has been like that. In fact, most of 2013 has been like that.

I won’t rehash it all here. If you read my posts regularly (and if not, why not?) you’ll know that of which I speak.

Let’s just say I won’t miss November. Or 2013. Or, for that matter, the last 48 hours which pretty much ran the gamut of emotions from “what the $#%@?” to “well, that worked out okay.”

The details are irrelevant. You have stories of your own.

But, what do you hang onto when life is like that? Sunday morning’s worship music brought it home to my wife and me.

Hide me now
Under Your wings
Cover me
Within Your mighty hand

When the oceans rise and thunders roar
I will soar with You above the storm
Father you are King over the flood
I will be still, know You are God

Find rest my soul
In Christ alone
Know His power
In quietness and trust

When the oceans rise and thunders roar
I will soar with You above the storm
Father You are king over the flood
I will be still, know You are God

~ Hillsong

I am reminded that in the craziest, sometimes darkest moments of my life that it’s time to be still.

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”
~ Psalm 46:10

I wish I didn’t forget this so often. After all, if this was true when I was going through cancer treatments (some 23 years ago) then why shouldn’t I remember it’s true when we survive a nasty car accident? Or when finances are a pain in the…checkbook?

It’s still true. Sometimes we just have to be quiet and allow God to work. Or be quiet enough to hear his voice.

God doesn’t change. He doesn’t leave.

Life will continue to be a series of ups and downs.

But, for the record, I’m not that fond of Ferris Wheels either.
