Three things you need

To succeed in life, you need three things: a wishbone, a backbone, and a funny bone.

American singer-songwriter, producer, and actress, Reba McEntire, was born on this day in 1955

Ain’t that the truth?

I don’t know about you, but it took me a while in life to realize that I’m not the only one with struggles. I’m not the only one who worries about money, or house repairs, or car trouble. I’m not the only one who has ever worked for an unreasonable boss who just doesn’t get it.

And we’re just not going to talk about any more details right now.

We all deal with struggles in different ways.

A lot of times, I’ll just choose to laugh because there’s really just no other option. True, I also “escape” into the theatre, or books, or writing.

But there’s just no medicine quite like a good belly laugh.

I learned that at an early age. I got picked on a lot because I was the fat kid. I still struggle with weight issues. But instead of becoming a melting snowflake, I turned it to laughter and sarcasm. In short, I became a professional smart-ass.

It gets me in trouble sometimes because I’ll look at the hypothetical unreasonable boss and say “pffff!!!”

Most of the time I try not to let that happen. However, I won’t promise that there’s not a good amount of behind the scenes mockage.

Life’s just too short to get all worked up over things that don’t matter. Whether you believe the world is bazillions of years old or just eight thousand years old (that’s a whole ‘nother post), the reality is that the 70-80 or so years we have here on earth is a really, really short time.

I’m all about being concerned over the things that really matter.

Sometimes, even the things that really matter can be really funny.

Don’t consider this commentary, but take some time to listen to and think about this from Reba’s new album:
