Two Things are Certain: Desk and Taxes

Since I have the day off today and since the groundhog was apparently wrong about an early spring. So far at least. I planned the day to get caught up on writing work, and to get our taxes filed.

I’ve spent most of the morning writing for Richmond Bible Examiner and doing some remedial print installation. The HP Photojet continues to show a non-existant paper jam, so it’s going to have to be serviced, or destroyed. Thus far, two out of three computers are successfully connected.

All that is to say that I haven’t gotten to the taxes yet. But that’s next or soon since in the writing of this I realized I’m missing a critical piece of information that I can’t retrieve until tomorrow (after the holiday).

What I already know is that I paid too much in taxes in 2012. And by that, I don’t just mean that I’m due a refund (I will be). Rather I mean that the government takes too much.

Seriously, I question the cognitive development of anyone who does not agree that the government both takes too much and spends too much. That may seem unkind, but to think otherwise is not to be grounded in reality.

And so, even though there are sometimes I wish I didn’t care, we fight on for better policy, better politicians. We fight to defend freedom and restore some common sense to our government.

It’s an uphill battle. Both ways. In the snow and barefoot.

Back to the tax returns. Daddy needs a new pair of shoes.
