.k.a. “National Novel Writing Month” begins in a little less than two hours. And, for the first time since 2003, I’m not participating.
Nanowrimo is a writing challenge in which you attempt to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. It can be done.
I know. I’ve done it. In fact I’ve been successful three times.
But, I’m not even starting this year.
Back in August I wrote that I was setting a new goal. To have a novel finished and submitted for publishing (not necessarily published) by August 31, 2012. While at the beach I selected the book I intend(ed) to work on.
Truth is, I haven’t touched it since August. Too many things – work, school, travel, rehearsals, life – have gotten in the way.
But August 31, 2013 is still my deadline, and I intend to make it.
So while I have friends around the country ready to open up the keyboards and start typing away at midnight, I won’t be joining them this year. I’ll be encouraging them.
And in the dedication for my one-day-to-be-published book, I’ll thank them…and Nanowrimo.
