As of this afternoon, our youngest child will no longer be enrolled in public schools. We are beginning the process of home schooling.
Not for religious objections. Not for political reasons. But because we think this is the best option for our child.
Without going into too many details that he’ll read next month when he turns 13 and gets on Facebook, let’s just say he’s a highly gifted under achiever.
When it comes to public schools, he just doesn’t fit in the box.
That’s not an indictment of the public school system. At least not here in Chesterfield. They have to design their classes and curriculum to meet the largest number of students.
Our son just learns differently than other students. But he does learn. And he does well.
There’s nothing wrong with not fitting into the box. Some of the world’s most successful people were outside the box people.
So, after a long weekend with Lee-Jackson Day on Friday and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, we start the process on Tuesday.
The desk is ready, for the most part. The curriculum selected. The plan is forming.
May God have mercy on our souls.
Bravo! You might be sorry occasionally in the interim (because of the challenges it may present), but you won’t be sorry in the end. Ours never went to public school, until college, and it was absolutely right for them.
