Advent Day 22 – Baby In a Manger

We’ve sung the song since the days we were children in Sunday School.

The little Lord Jesus no crying he makes.

A nice sentiment. But Jesus was fully God, and fully human.

The miracle, one of them at least, of the birth of Christ is that he chose to leave his kingly home in the heavens to come down here to Earth.

Stinky, smelly, dirty, Earth.

He did that for us.

It’s a nice image to see the helpless baby in a manger.

But when the time came, that very baby would face the gate of Hell for us.

Be near me, Lord Jesus, indeed.

Advent Day 21 – Glory to God

The Angel Appearing to the Shepherds, Govert Flinck, 1639

Forget gender reveal parties (which we personally think are sort of strange anyway), how about having your birth announced by a host of angels?

That night, angels appeared to shepherds in Bethlehem and told them of the birth of the Savior.

The shepherds believed, left their flocks, and went and found the baby in the manger.

Glory to God.
