Tuesday Prompts

“Always keep a bottle of wine in the fridge for special occasions. You know, like a Tuesday.”

If you know me, or follow my Instagram, you’ll know I enjoy an occasional “Evening Cup.”

But not every evening, and certainly not every Tuesday.

Especially when I still have to get up on Wednesday.

Tuesday can be a hard day.

You set goals for Monday, and you don’t make them. So you think you’ll kick back in and get to them on

Tuesday.

But there’s a temptation to think that you should just wait another week, until next Monday.

Maybe that’s why there aren’t a lot of inspirational quotes about Tuesday.

Yeah, I looked.

Tuesday just sort of sits there.

It’s not the first day of the week. It’s not the middle of the week. And tomorrow is most definitely not Friday.

So, Tuesday takes a little extra motivation.

And a little extra writing prompt.

Or is it writer fluid?

Recaffeinated Mondays: Reset

“If you can’t control your peanut butter, you can’t expect to control your life.”

Bill Watterson, The Authoritative Calvin and Hobbes: A Calvin and Hobbes Treasury

Today is National Peanut Butter Day.

It is also Monday.

Observant readers will know that I prefer one more than the other.

Peanut butter is the food of my childhood. It’s what I turn to when “there’s nothing to eat in the house.”

It’s comfort food and I’m all about being comfortable.

It’s only the fourth week of the year and I am attempting to do a personal reset.

We’ve already talked about how 2022 hasn’t gotten off to a great start.

Okay. Fine.

So far it sucks.

But, unlike peanut butter, there’s only so much we can control.

I had plans to be further along with several projects by now.

NARRATOR: He ain’t.

As I write this on Sunday evening, my wife and I have been back only a few hours from a whirlwind trip to check on my Mom, still in rehab from her New Year’s Eve Fall. I’ll be making that trip frequently over the next few weeks and months because it’s just what we do.

While in my home town yesterday we had breakfast at a local restaurant. I ran into a high school friend. I’m fairly certain we haven’t seen each other since the 70s. Well, over than on Facebook. He was with his family and they were heading to his father’s funeral that afternoon.

From the visit with my Mom, we traveled a little bit out of our way to visit with my wife’s Aunt, also in rehab.

I have to tell you, we’re physically and emotionally drained.

But it’s Monday and we start all over again.

When I chose “Recover” for one of my three words this year, I was thinking of my own recovery from Last Summer’s Unpleasantness (™). But there’s enough of that word to go around.

So here on yet another Monday, another new beginning, I’m embracing that word to recover some projects I want to move forward, to recover some more of my health.

Recover is a good word.

Especially if you serve it with a little peanut butter.
