I’ve been asking myself how long I’m going to write about my current situation.
I mean, it is sort of consuming my life right now.
Today I’d been planning to write about all of the things I’m not getting to do this year. But that seems depressing and a little whiny.
Early on in my diagnosis I did spend time thinking that way. But I realized how counter productive that really is.
Sure, I’m missing a lot. Nothing I can say or whine about will change that.
I don’t know how much longer I will be in rehab. I’m definitely making progress.
But we have to add a ramp and chairlift before I can go home and function.
Those things will happen. Eventually.
Lots of things will happen. Eventually.
There are three things I’m hoping I won’t have to give up.
I’ve already mentioned that, while it’s possible that I may still be in rehab, I would love to make it to church on Easter Sunday.
I am scheduled to direct Honky Tonk Hissy Fit, the third in the Doublewide, Texas series for Chamberlayne Actors Theatre. I directed the first two in the series. We were scheduled to premiere this show in the fall of 2020. I don’t think I need to explain what happened.
I will admit that I’ve wondered if I can actually do this. But my producer and stage manager are adamant that I have to be on board.
Rehearsals begin in April. We may have to be a bit creative. But we’re making it happen.
This June is my 45th college reunion at Asbury University. I plan to be there, even if I’m still in a wheelchair. Our 40th was also a victim of COVID. While we had a wonderful time meeting online, we need to be there in person this year.
Sure, there are a lot of other places I’m not going to this year.
It’s a season. It’s a really bad season.
But I have the hope that I’ll be back.
Some days I question that hope. Particularly on the hard days when I don’t see as much progress in therapy as I might like.
