I pledge allegiance to the flag
of the United States of America,
and to the republic for which it stands,
one nation under God,
indivisible, with liberty
and justice for all.
Today is Flag Day in the United States. It commemorates the adoption of the Stars and Stripes by a resolution of the Second Continental Congress on June 14, 1777.
Today also commemorates the U.S. Army birthday of June 14, 1775.
President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed June 14 as Flag Day on June 1916 before dragging us into World War I.
Too soon?
I’m not ashamed to say that I love the Grand Old Flag. I’ve pledged my allegiance on more occasions than I can count.
I’m a big fan of Yankee Doodle, being born myself on the third of July. The fireworks are always a nice addition to the festivities.
Do I think that our flag, and our country are perfect?
Hardly.
I just think we’re still the best. Your nationality may vary.
We’ve got a lot of problems. I think we still have the resolve to fix them. At least I hope we do.
Today, I’m waving the flag and flying it from my house. But no, in spite of what memes you may have seen, that doesn’t tell you how I’m voting.
It might tell you how I’m not voting, but that’s another post. For another writer.
