The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:22-23
Mercy, for us.
Scripture tells us that his mercies are new every morning.
Every. Morning.
That includes mornings like this one when a combination of insomnia, back pain, and maybe a little nausea, got me out of bed at 1:00 a.m. I was able to doze in the comfy chair for a while, then I got up to write this for you.
You’re welcome.
The scripture from Lamentations is the basis for one of my favorite hymns. Have a listen before you move on. It will do you more good than anything I can manage to write today.
I don’t know what caused the insomnia this time. It’s been the cancer treatment for a while. Last night might have been that along with a combination of take out Chinese food that I’ve not had in a long while.
And, I’m not likely to have again for another long while.
Several years ago when I went through an unpleasant experience with a shoulder injury that they never quite diagnosed I had a bad reaction to the pain meds. Over that period of time, a couple of restaurants were marked off the list because their food made me ill.
My family remains very disappointed that I will not eat at Chipotle or Panda Express.
Sorry, not sorry.
I realize this is random, but like I have on many nights recently, I went to bed knowing only the scripture I wanted to quote, or knowing the topic for the day, hoping to get up with the alarm and finish the post.
I beat the alarm today.
I’m just not sure that you’re getting quality writing.
Speaking of quality writing, I’m a day behind but I started watching the Hemingway series on PBS last night. It’s well worth your time.
Hemingway at one point decided to give up journalism to do the writing he wanted to do.
I happened to think that was sort of like my realization that I didn’t want to be a copy writer.
But, I’m no Hemingway, and I never will be. Neither will anyone else.
Still, his writing and to a certain way his life can inspire.
I mean, he got to hang out in Paris with James Joyce, Gertrude Stein, and even Picasso. How cool is that?
Except I’d be afraid that James Joyce would ask me what I thought of Ulysses and I’d have to tell him I couldn’t finish it.
Speaking, again, of mercy, I’m on my way in a few to get my second Pfizer shot. I had a mild reaction to the first one. I’m hoping that means I won’t to the second one. I’ll let you know tomorrow, assuming I can think of something to write about.
Show some mercy.

BENEDICTION
Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
