“It is better to offer no excuse than a bad one.”
George Washington
We are on day 217 of 15 days to slow the spread.
Thanks, George.
If you follow me on social media, you probably often feel as though your cup runneth over.
We won’t discuss what it runneth overeth with.
But you likely also saw that, over the weekend I rearranged my home office for the third time since our 47 years of house arrest began.
In just a few weeks my Santa season begins. I’ll be working at a local mall as well as appearing online with Jingle Ring. (Click the pic and use code Jingle21 to schedule your visit with your favorite Santa).
Being a virtual Santa is a bit more than just opening up the laptop and turning on the webcam.
To begin with, when I started down this path, I had neither a laptop, nor a webcam.
In fact, all of these years of blog brilliance were brought to you via a PC that I purchased with Marriott Bonus points in…wait for it…2004.
That meant I had to make some investments.
Easy enough since I wasn’t planning to do in person events this year. I need to do some costume upgrades but those could wait…right?
Well, not exactly. I’ve got two in person gigs, one pretty substantial. I needed to buy those new boots after all.
Are y’all beginning to understand why Santa can’t get you everything you ask for this year?
Where was I?
Oh yes, the office.
I spent Memorial Day weekend, and I’m pretty sure I already whined, I mean wrote, about this, taking everything out of the office and rearranging it for video work.
Then the green screen arrived and I realized the setup would not work.
You can guess what I did Labor Day weekend.
Then I got the webcam.
One. More. Time.
I think I’ve finally got the setup that I need. I need to add some additional lighting, but we’ll get there.
Having said all of that, I’m realizing that most of that has nothing to do with where I intended to go with this post.
I’ve got a new setup with the laptop and the webcam. And the 16-year-old computer purchase afforded me a second monitor.
I’ve got my iPad for streaming and my work laptop for working.
Yes, I still have a day job.
All of this means that I have no excuse for not being productive.
In other words. I’m my only obstacle.
A friend posted this on Facebook yesterday.
“You can’t talk yourself out of a situation you behave yourself into.”
Steven Covey
I’ve set myself up here in my home office to work, to write, to do art, and to do virtual Santa.
NARRATOR: He also has a napping chair when the cat isn’t in it.
I’ve made the decision to be involved in many things.
I have all the tools I need.
The only person in the way of my getting stuff done is me.
For the record, I’ve never finished a Steven Covey book.
On a different note, this song spoke to me this week.
What I’m reading…
