Actor David Huddleston in Santa Claus: The Movie
We are on day 183 of 15 days to slow the spread.
American actor David Huddleston was born in Vinton, Virginia on this day in 1930. He died in 2016. While the quotes from Blazing Saddles and The Big Lebowski were funnier, this is a family(ish) blog.
I never met David Huddleston. But his brother, Hayden, was a news celebrity at the NBC affiliate in Roanoke. When I was freshly out of college, and still considering a career in journalism, I interviewed with Hayden Huddleston for an on the air reporter spot. He told me that he couldn’t offer me that job, but asked if I would be interested in working as a camera operator.
Being young, and stupid, I turned him down.
It was another one of those left turns. And yes, as a matter of fact, I had recently been through Albuquerque.
It will do no good to brood over choices that I did or didn’t make.
But don’t be surprised if one day it serves as inspiration for a novel, or at least another blog post.
