We are on day 132 of 15 days to slow the spread.
It’s finally Friday and the Washington Redskins have announced that they will play the 2020 season under the “name” The Washington Football Team.
I swear I’m not making either of those things up.
In my early days, I honed my skills writing satire, often political satire. The problem with trying to do that these days is that every time I seen an article from The Onion or The Babylon Bee, I have to go fact check it because it just might be true.
Honestly, the whole Redskins thing is a marketing nightmare. I don’t know how many millions they paid their consultants, but I would have come up with a much better solution for half the price.
Speaking of nightmares, I woke up this morning dreaming about work. One of the first times I have since we were placed under house arrest some 47 years ago.
It wasn’t really a nightmare, just a very uncomfortable situation.
No, it was not the show up at school in your underwear dream.
It was the day of a meeting and I realized just moments before the chairman was to call the meeting to order that I was woefully unprepared.
See, that’s what I do. I make meetings happen. I make events happen. I make theater happen.
In the day job I coordinate several Boards for my state agency. I should have recognized early on that this was a dream because, under current guidelines, there’s no meeting in person.
I woke up just as the chairman was saying something like “we’ll do the best we can without the materials.”
Thankfully, the alarm went off and I didn’t have to report to the boss’s office.
Back to the marketing. That’s what I’m struggling with right now.
I mean, why can’t the stars align so that a publisher just rings me up and offers me that multi-million dollar writing contract?
Why can’t casting directors call me up and say that they can see no one else in a particular part?
Why aren’t the events or shows I produce sold out within minutes of tickets going on sale?
It just doesn’t happen that way.
So, not only do I have to produce the brilliant writing and performances (work with me here), I have to promote myself as well. The struggle is to find the right balance between creating and promoting.
I’m so vain, I probably think this post is about me.
The problem is that, whilst doing all of that, I still have the daytime job.
Unless that wasn’t really a dream.
Like you, I’m sorting out this working from home, virus lock down, will we ever be together again nightmare.
I’m just putting one project in front of the other, or something like that.
Hail to the…Football Team.
