(More) Magic to Do

The year is nearly half over, a you’re all out there wondering…what happened to his theme of “Get Things Done?”

Truth is, I’ve been too busy getting things done to write about the theme. But, in this case, I’ve been doing the things and not just writing about them. Consider, this year.

I finished my script and will soon see it on stage in a local theater. (Details in the sidebar.)

I acted in a mainstage show.

I directed my first mainstage show (quite successfully to rave reviews and near sell-out crowds).

I’ve book my next directing gig (in addition to the one I already had scheduled for next Spring). (More details in the sidebar.)

I found the yard. True, we’re still working on that one. It’s been a tad wet.

And, whilst the scales are not where we’d like them to be, I’m on a pretty consistent exercise routine.

Now, I know you’re not here on a daily basis just to hear me talk about what I’m doing and not doing. More importantly, I know that just talking about what I’m doing is never going to make me a bazillionaire through this blog.

But, think back to the first of the year. What did you tell yourself you were going to do in 2018?

Did you make a list of resolutions? Do any of them remain unbroken?

Did you set goals? Have you reached any of them?

Or did you find yourself down that rabbit trail on the Interwebz?

True story. That happened to me on more than one occasion.

But, whether you’ve met your goals, or kept your resolutions really doesn’t matter.

What matters is not giving up.

That’s where the magic is created (see, you knew I’d eventually get to the title).

Sometimes our plans work perfectly and we meet our goals right away.

You and I both know that’s very rare.

In between that, life happens. And sometimes life is messy.

Let’s face it. None of us gets out of here alive.

Well, maybe Enoch and Elijah, but they’re different stories. Look them up, it will do you good.

No, not to be morbid, but we each have a limited amount of time. What counts is what we do with it.

There’s no point worrying about the past. It’s done. It’s over. Don’t waste today’s precious moments worrying about what you did or didn’t do.

Likewise, don’t obsess over the future. I’m not saying don’t make plans or don’t set goals.

Just don’t spend all of today’s energy focused on that and miss what’s going on around you.

The way I’m looking at it is that I now have a five-year plan (I talked about that).

I can spend all my time dreaming about those goals and hoping to get there. Or, I can take a look at those goals and ask myself each day if what I’m doing moves me closer to the target.

It’s not really magic. But when I’m there at the goal, it just might seem like it.

In other news, American singer-songwriter, Carly Simon, was born on this day in 1945.

She probably thinks this post is about her.
