Often I hear people say they do not have time to read. That’s absolute nonsense. In the one year during which I kept that kind of record, I read twenty-five books while waiting for people. In offices, applying for jobs, waiting to see a dentist, waiting in a restaurant for friends, many such places.
American novelist and short story writer, Louis L’Amour, was born on this day in 1908 (died 1988).
I’m trying to read more in 2018. So, far, I’m doing okay. Not quite on pace with that Goodreads tells me I need to be doing to make my goal of reading at least 50 books this year. But, I’ll get there.
Currently, including some scripts I have about five books going. I’m about to work my way through The Message, so I need to figure out a return to Scripture reading. But I don’t normally count that in my book list.
As we approach Holy Week, I’m thinking I need to spend the next few weeks, maybe months, in the Gospels. No matter how many times I’ve read them, a refresher is always good.
While it isn’t exactly Scripture, and there’s a lot more we can say it is or isn’t, I’m looking forward to Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert on NBC on Easter Sunday night.
I think I was in seventh grade when I first heard the music of Superstar. I fell in love with it then and have remained so over the years.
Some twenty years after I first heart the music, I saw a revival tour of the stage production with Ted Neeley and Irene Cara (Fame) at Wolf Trap Park in Vienna.
I’ve always wanted to be in that show. Lately, I’ve had a desire to direct it.
Casting directors and producers…hit me up.
I digress.
I am trying to read more. And, as I write this I’m realizing that I once again made the mistake of not stashing a book in my messenger bag.
I’m also about a third of the way through Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I’ve been working my way back through the whole series. But that’s a hefty book to be carrying around, especially since my messenger bag doesn’t work like Hermione’s little beaded purse.
Still…I am reminded that I should always have a book.
I don’t do well with the Kindle version, either on my phone or on my iPad. And, while the 30-Day Free Trial was nice, I’m not paying for Audible.
I do much better with paper books anyway. And, I have plenty of those to read.
So, what are you reading these days? Share in the comments.
In other news, American composer and songwriter, Stephen Sondheim, was born on this day in 1930.
