When the Lord closes a door, somewhere He opens a window.
Maria in The Sound of Music
Or maybe you could just open the door, because that’s what they’re for.
I don’t think doors are closing.
I’ve done some soul searching (blog searching?) here this week, trying to figure this whole thing out.
Maybe the writing opportunities are taking me in a different direction.
Maybe, as many of you have said, I should just keep writing about life and the journey that I’m on. Thank you for that.
In the midst of all of this angst about where I’m going with it, I keep being approached about acting and graphic design opportunities.
You’ve heard me say that I can’t do it all. Well, I could do most of it if I didn’t depend on the day job. But the mortgage company and the IRS would frown upon the idea of me turning in a resignation.
But I will point out that the Virginia Lottery is now located on the ground floor of my office building.
Remember, I don’t believe in coincidence.
Not to worry, I limit myself to no more than a dollar a week, if that. So far in the months that they’ve been there, I’m down about six dollars.
Somebody has to win, right? At least that’s what Publisher’s Clearinghouse tells me.
No, while I’d love for either of those to happen, I’m not banking on them. I learned that lesson long ago when I was still playing politics. No matter how many election cycles I went through waiting for the right candidate to win and appointment to a high profile/high dollar position, it just didn’t happen.
The only way this writing, acting, or graphic design thing is going to work is if I keep plugging away. Whatever the focus (and I do need to focus), I’ll never really be accomplished at my craft(s) if I don’t work on them.
I know, I know. The experts will tell me that I can’t multi-task and be successful. I generally find it best not to stop and read their articles when I’m in the midst of doing eight things at once.
It’s Friday. I won’t go into the specifics, but my weekend involves acting, graphic design, writing, working my weekend job at the park, and yard work.
Come Monday, I’ll assess how far I got with each one and then regroup.
Hey maybe that’s it. Maybe this blog should be all about how you can successfully multitask.
But, who would have time to read it?
The weekend is here. Make the most of it.
You can do it. All you need is a hand.
American actress and singer Patti LuPone was born on this day in 1949.
