I’ll go straight to an Italian restaurant and have 8 or 10 pizzas, 6 dozen meatballs, and 2 miles of spaghetti, and then, I’ll have dinner.
American actor Alan Hale, Jr. when asked if the cast of Gilligan’s Island would ever get rescued. Hale was born on this day in 1921 (died 1990).
Those poor people.
According to the historical documents, we have no real record of a rescue on Gilligan’s Island, unless you count a couple of rather bad made for TV movies.
Look, if I’m going to have to explain all of the obscure cultural references we’re going to be here a while.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t have time for that sort of distraction. Darn it.
Not all distractions are bad things. Sometimes we need some mindless television, or surfing of Facebook, or a beverage.
Or two.
It’s all about moderation.
I keep a running list of things I need or want to do. You probably do to.
And if we’re honest, we’ll never get to the end of the list. So we have to prioritize.
I’ve bookmarked several articles lately about how to be more efficient, how to be more productive, how to make the most of your time.
I’ll try to get around to reading them.
They’re on my to do list.
I suppose I talk about this because I’m continually revising that list, continually reassessing what’s really important and what just needs to be set aside, or moved further down the list.
More often than not, things need to just be taken off of the list.
It’s the second week of Lent and maybe you’re craving that very thing you chose for your fast. Or maybe you’re realizing you didn’t need it after all and you can take that off of the list too.
None of us has it all together. None of us will really ever get through everything on our list.
For that I’m thankful for grace.
Lent is a good reminder that maybe we do, indeed, have too many things on our list. It’s a time to slow down and remember.
And maybe to realize that our time on the island wasn’t so bad after all.
American actress and dancer, Cyd Charisse, was born on this day in 1922 (died 2008).

I get so tired of my to-do lists that I toss them and start a new one. Every now and then I will be cleaning out something and I’ll find an old to-do list and read it, realizing that I eventually did everything on it or I missed one or two things and the world didn’t stop turning. If I missed mopping the floors one week it was likely because I was doing something with one child or another, the floor eventually got mopped. Big things always get done, but the sad part is that most of the time the things I put on the list that will bring me some kind of joy or happiness are often shuffled to the bottom, but there is something to be said for the theory that we do the things we want to do. 😉
