Silly me. Four years ago I wrote my Bucket List of all things I want to do before I, well, kick the bucket.
Incidentally I recently got the opportunity to (finally) watch the movie Bucket List with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. Definitely worth the watch.
I look back on my post from 2013 and sigh. I’ve not made a lot of progress.
On a side note, I did add to that list the watching of all of the films that have won the Academy Award for Best Picture. I’ve made some progress, although some of the older films are hard to find. Hopefully TCM will once again run their “30 Days of Oscar” programming and I’ll catch a few more.
But back to the original list. You can read it here.
And here’s my update to that.
Travel. More than I have. Probably less than what’s on the list.
Publish my scripts and novels. I’m closer. But not close enough.
See the Tournament of Roses Parade, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Chincoteague Pony Swim live. For the latter I just have to remember to schedule the time off in July and drive myself over the bridge to the Eastern Shore. This may be the year.
Have my own art show. Stay tuned on this one. I’m revamping my art projects and, while I may never actually host an exhibit, I’ll have some work displayed or available. More to come.
Read the Complete Works of Shakespeare. I’ve actually started this. And, while I’ve fallen behind on my plan to read through Shakespeare in a year, I’m further along than I have been.
Be conversant in Spanish. I look enough class in high school and college that I should know a lot more than I do. I’ve also got a set of CDs. Unfortunately, until recently one of the discs was permanently stuck in the CD player in my truck. I don’t think I’ll have any luck if I try again. I did have the Duolingo app on my phone and was working through that way. But the app goobered up and two help requests have gone unanswered. It’s still a goal.
I realize this post doesn’t compare to the usual brilliance you read here on a regular basis. You do read here on a regular basis, don’t you?
But these are goals and dreams. And they’re all part of what will make me a better writer, actor, and artist.
Part of life is having goals, having things to work for.
The older I get, the more I realize that it’s not so much about accomplishing what is on my bucket list. I may never reach them all. I may never reach any of them. In reality, there’s no guarantee that I’ll even be around by the time you read this post.
What’s important are the dreams, the goals, the plans. The things that keep us moving.
To paraphrase Dori, just keep moving, just keep moving.
