Are we there yet?

In between goals is a thing called life, that has to be lived and enjoyed.

– American comic actor and writer, Sid Caesar, was born on this day in 1922 (died 2014)

It seems in life that we’re always going somewhere.

It’s working for the next job, or the next role. Or at the gym working for the next lower number on the scales. Or writing that next chapter that will, eventually, get us to the end of the book.

Sometimes though we’re too busy thinking about what is going to happen to realize what is happening.

You know, it’s a stop and smell the roses kind of thing.

What’s that Andy Dufresne quote from The Shawshank Redemption?

You either need to get busy living, or get busy dying.

(note to self: Google Rita Hayworth posters and rock hammers)

That doesn’t mean you give up and just focus on the day you’re going to die. And, news flash, we’re all going to.

But it means don’t miss the wonder and beauty of today hoping for the wonder and beauty of tomorrow.

Sure, each day has plenty of things to worry about, plenty of things that are a pain in the backside.

But each day has the wonder of the sunrise or the sunset (I’ve said before that I could rock that part).

Each day has new challenges and opportunities.

The challenge is to continue working towards those goals, but not at the expense of today.

And maybe while you’re not missing the day you can go out walking.

American (and Virginian) singer-songwriter and pianist, Patsy Cline, was born on this day in 1932 (died 1963).
