Let there Be Peace this Weekend

On this day in 1885, the Statue of Liberty, a gift to the United States from the people of France, arrived in New York Harbor.

I was going to riff on freedom, as in the price of, the loss of, etc., but it’s Friday and I’m using my freedom to think on other things.

It’s been a hard news week.

We were still dealing with the news that singer Christina Grimmie was gunned down in a concert on Saturday when we heard the news of the shooting at the Pulse nightclub, also in Orlando. And, as a final kick in the unmentionables the end of the week gave us the news of the toddler carried off by an alligator.

I can’t imagine the horrors of any of those.

It makes me want to channel Gollum, put my hands over my ears and scream “Not listening! Not listening!”

But we have to listen.

To make matters worse that’s just the news from one week in one city.

And we’re still dealing with political posturing on both sides. We’re dealing with misinformation about what is and isn’t an assault rifle.

I wrote about this yesterday. The Interwebz are full of information and very few are taking the time to actually read the facts.

I’m hoping we can all take the weekend to calm down a bit. To think about what’s really important. To let the emotions cool. To heal.

To find some peace within ourselves.

Your faith may vary. Your faith may be non-existent.

Jesus said:

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

John 14:27

Have a peaceful weekend.
