I’ve spent a lot of time this week talking about South Carolina, about flags, about statues.
It’s Friday and whilst you’re reading this I’ll be in Kentucky for my college reunion weekend. I need the distraction.
But, I will say one more time that we can’t forget our history. That doesn’t mean that everything has to be celebrated. But to try to erase what happened by removing all of the symbolism is not only futile, it’s more than a bit dangerous.
“That could never happen here.”
“That could never happen again.”
Horse. $#!t.
It could happen in a heart beat.
We may be more enlightened, but the heart of man certainly hasn’t changed.
That’ll preach.
And maybe that’s what we need more of.
This past week the people of Charleston rallied in solidarity. They gathered in prayer.
That, my friends, is the solution.
In times of trouble in the past, this nation has turned to prayer. George Washington did. Abraham Lincoln did. The churches were full after the 9/11 attacks.
They should be again.
