A lamp unto my feet

I’ve got a new reading plan. This time, I’ll make it my own.

On Wednesday, I finished reading through the Bible.  Each day in 2014, I received a set of Scriptures via Bible Gateway.   There was a passage from both the Old and the New Testaments.  They went through in order and finished up this week.  I’m glad for that accomplishment.

I’m not so sure how much I really absorbed.  Most days it was an “Oh, I have to read this before I go to work” kind of exercise.

Daily Scripture reading and prayer are important.  I shouldn’t neglect them. No follower of Jesus should.

But the reading plan I followed last year felt a bit too much like a marathon.  I was reading to get through, not to comprehend, not to understand.

I may again in future years choose to read through the entire Bible in a year.  One year I did it in a 90-Day Challenge.  Again, not so sure I understood anything.

So this year I’m taking a different approach.

I couldn’t find a plan I liked.  Okay, truth is, I didn’t look that hard.  So I made up my own.

For now, at least, I’m focusing on the Psalms and the Gospels. I’ll read one chapter of each every day and consider what they say.  When I get through, I’ll go back to the beginning and start over.

Along the way, I’ll throw in a little Oswald Chambers and “My Utmost for His Highest.”

There’s a chance I’ll change that plan midstream.  But for now, that’s it.

Maybe as I learn things from the Word I’ll share some things here.

How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word!
What more can He say than to you He hath said,
You, who unto Jesus for refuge have fled?
