Music to lose a Congressman by

You already know I’m not sad about this. I’d like to see a lot more districts do the same.

Marority Leader Eric Cantor gave his farewell speech on the floor of the House of Representatives today. He steps back into the rank and file and will leave office when the new Congress convenes in January. [USA Today]

I’m seeing today, and have been seeing for a while, folks on the political right lamenting the loss.

Even Governor McAuliffe said on WTOP, “I’m heartsick that Eric Cantor lost. I will say this as a Democrat. I had as governor the house majority leader about to be speaker. My staff dealt with Eric Cantor’s staff all the time. I dealt with Congressman and Leader Cantor all the time, they were nothing but helpful. That’s an important asset in my toolbox for me to do what I need to do as governor.” [The Washington Post]

Look, I understand the whole issue of clout for Virginia. I get that. But as I noted the other day, I’d like to see a whole lot more of the “experienced” politicians sent home.

Let’s make it a citizen legislature again.

In the meantime, those who are still aching over the loss need to come to grips with the fact that the primary race was lost by Cantor and his consultants. It was not the Tea Party, or crossover Democrats or any other excuse.

It’s time to admit that’s why it’s all over.
