Robert Treskillard attempts a new telling of the Arthur legends and at first, they don’t quite make sense. Still once you get past the “this isn’t the Camelot story I remember” part, Treskillard weaves a good story full of both early British Christianity as well as the competing druidism.
The book gets off to somewhat of a slow start, but is easy to read and enjoyable for the most part. Not having read other works specifically devoted to Merlin, it is difficult (or impossible) to make a comparision.
I would think if one loves the Arthur legends and stories that this Treskillard’s works would be something to consider and meet that need. But I was not inspired enough to wish to continue the series.
