Movember: Be aware gentlemen. Be very aware.
It’s Movember. No, that’s not a typo.
Movember is a concentrated effort in the month of November to raise awareness regarding men’s health issues.
Men are encouraged to grow mustaches during November with the goal being to “change the face of men’s health.”
Movember hopes to increase early cancer detection, giving more time to allow for diagnosis and effective treatments.
As a (nearly) 23-year suvivor of testicular cancer this is particularly important to me. As I wrote recently, since age 50 I’ve been on a five-year rotation to get a colonoscopy. I’ll spare you more details, but based on the last results, that’s now down to three. I’m all clear. This is preventative.
And that’s the point.
Spare me the crap about how it’s embarrassing, how it’s uncomfortable, how you can’t stand the thought of the procedure.
THIS. COULD. SAVE. YOUR. LIFE.
If you’re between the ages of 20 and 40, routinely check your privates out while you are in the shower. If you detect ANYTHING unusual, see your doctor.
If you’ve hit your 50s, see your doctor and bend over and cough. Likewise, get your colonoscopy scheduled.
This is not optional.
Your life may depend on it.
