Helen Keller
American author, political activist and lecturer Helen Adams Keller was born on this day in 1880 in Tuscumbia, Alabama.
She was born with the ability to see and hear, but at the age of 19 months she contracted what doctors described as “an acute congestion of the stomach and the brain.” This may have been scarlet fever or meningitis.
She died on June 1, 1969.
