Jeb Bush: Listen to Your Mother

Earlier this week President George W. Bush indicated that he would like to see his brother, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, run for president.

Their mother disagreed.

And like I’ve said before here and here, I agree. Back in March I wrote:

Look, I have a lot of respect for Governor Bush and for what he did while he was governor of Florida. In a lot of ways, he’s probably the Bush that should have been in the White House.

But no. No one else from this family. Not now. Maybe in a generation.

On a week where the Bush family and, really the nation, is celebrating the opening of the George W. Bush Presidential Library, I don’t want to speak ill of either George H.W. Bush or George W. Bush.

I admire both men. And while both of their presidencies could be criticized for many things, they are worlds above the current disaster in the White House. Both were willing to take responsibility for what they did and what they said, and neither blamed their predecessor when things went wrong.

Having said that, I think that of the three, Jeb Bush is probably the one who should have been president.

Should. Have. Been.

We don’t have royalty in this country. We don’t do dynasties.

Barbara Bush is absolutely right when she says:

“I think it’s a great country. There are a lot of great families, and it’s not just four families or whatever. There are other people out there that are very qualified and we’ve had enough Bushes.”

Jeb, listen to your mother.
