365 Things I Believe: Good Government

Third President of the United States, American Founding Father, Author of the Declaration of Independence, and Virginian, Thomas Jefferson was born on this day in 1743. He died on at the age of 83 on July 4, 1826.

Jefferson would not recognize the Government today. No, he’d look at Washington and wonder what the hell happened. We have excessive regulations, excessive taxes taking away the money we have earned to give to those who have not earned. Not that charity is wrong, but anyone who does not realize that most of that money never leaves Washington is grossly naive.

And Jefferson would not recognize a government who has a President that says of the 2nd Amendment, that fears about government gun seizures were designed to feed “into fears about government. You hear some of these folks: ‘I need a gun to protect myself from the government. We can’t do background checks because the government’s going to come take my guns away.’ The government’s us. These officials are elected by you. … I am constrained as they are constrained by the system that our founders put in place.”

That’s exactly right, Mr. President, you ARE contrained. Thank God.

365 Things I Believe is a revisioning of a year long web project. I initially launched the blog 365 Things I Believe because I think there are important things I have to say. There are eternal truths that are non-debatable, although I realize they’re not universally accepted.

So for a year I did a daily post of one thing I believe to be an indisputable truth. I’m relaunching here at The Write Side of My Brain and will continue through the next year to re-post (mostly) from the original project.

This time graphics and commentary are included. You can buy today’s print here. And, by the end of a year, if not sooner, you’ll be able to purchase the entire series in ebook format.
