American statesman, politician and soldier, Sam Houston was born in Virginia on this day in 1793. (d. July 26, 1863). Houston is the only person to have become governor of two different U.S. States through popular election and is the only governor to have head of a foreign state. He is perhaps best well known for bringing Texas into the nation.
Virginia says, “Texas, you’re welcome.”
