The word which God has written on the brow of every man is Hope.
Victor Hugo, Les Misérables
French poet, novelist and dramatist Victor Hugo was born on this day in 1802. He died on May 22, 1885.
I will admit to never reading Hugo until after the first time I saw Les Misérables.
But in that work, as well as in the musical and now film based on it, Hugo writes and incredible story of redemption.
Hugo left France in 1851 and was in exile for 19 years. He ended up on the island of Guernsey where he wrote some of his most famous works.
