When life gives you speed bumps

This is not the summer I expected to have.

The reasons don’t matter, except perhaps to my family, but this summer isn’t going the way we planned. To put it bluntly, it has crap flung all over it.

We’d already accepted some changes and some sacrifices this year. But we could see the other side.

That’s what we get for planning.

Again, what happened isn’t part of the story I’m telling to you.  But I’m sitting here in New River Valley Mall waiting to be called with a verdict about my truck.

If you don’t know Virginia geography that’s about four hours from Chesterfield and not quite to my parents’ house.  Just one more stop I didn’t plan.

So, what do I do about it? I get through it. And somehow I’m going to figure a way to channel all these annoyances into my writing.

Perhaps I’ve arrived as a suffering artist.

But getting upset about things will do no good.  I have faith that the God of the universe has a plan. And I have faith that I’m in it.

So, what I have to do is say “Okay Lord, you drive today.”

Truth is, if I’d been letting him do that all along he would have caught the problem with the truck before the check engine light came on.

Maybe one day I’ll learn that lesson.
