Feed the birds, tuppence a bag

“Pssst…that big guy just filled up the feeders again.”

I love having bird feeders in the back yard.  But I confess to not being as good at filling them up in the winter, when of course I should be more diligent.  So, today I motivated myself to get out there and fill the feeders.  It was a good thing to do.

I hadn’t been back inside more than 20 minutes when I noticed a flurry of activity on the feeders.  At one point there were at least a dozen birds flying in and out checking out the menu.  It was like the Baptists had just arrived at the Sunday Golden Corral buffet.

Such a simple thing, and such an easy way to enjoy the beauty of creation.

And, the suet might just be enough to keep that pesky woodpecker from pounding on the vinyl siding in the mornings.

Mary Poppins sang about feeding the birds for tuppence a bag.  I think it’s more expensive than that now.  Then again, I don’t really know what a tuppence is.

Come feed the little birds, show them you care
And you’ll be glad if you do.
Their young ones are hungry,
Their nests are so bare;
All it takes is tuppence from you.”
Feed the birds, tuppence a bag,
Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag.
