One sorry President

One not so sorry.

We told you about President Obama’s apology to Afghan President Karzai. It didn’t help.

And what was Karzai’s response? Put U.S. Troops on Trial and Punish Them. CNSNews tells us that Karzai, according to a BBC translation of his remarks made Sunday, told the Afghan people he was speaking to them after discussing the matter with “jihadi leaders,” “prominent scholars,” and Afghan elected officials, and that he spoke for the “pure sentiments” of the “Afghan nation” and the “Islamic world,” when he said: “We call on the US government to bring the perpetrators of the act to justice and put them on trial and punish them.”

Never mind that the President stood quietly by when in May 2009 Military personnel threw away, and ultimately burned, confiscated Bibles that were printed in the two most common Afghan languages amid concern they would be used to try to convert Afghans, a Defense Department spokesman said Tuesday. The military burned the Bibles because they feared returning them to the sending organization would “lead to violence against troops or U.S. civilians.”

Chris Fields at The Blaze puts it this way:

So, let’s make sure we have this straight:

Burn Korans on accident at U.S. base in Afghanistan –> U.S. troops killed by riots

Burn Bibles on purpose at U.S. base in Afghanistan –> Protects U.S. troops from being killed by riots

Makes perfect sense to me.

Over at Virginia Right! Tom says: Obama’s ‘Metro-sexual’ Apology Seen as Weakness to Radical Islamists

Saying that one apology should have been issued by the military commander and not the President, Charles Krauthammer said, “The reason we’re apologizing is not because of politeness or showing respect. A single apology would have done that. it’s the fear of violence. People don’t object if the Mormons are mocked on Broadway, if a Christian crucifix are put in bottles of urine and displayed at a museum because the violence isn’t a factor. People are afraid. You do a cartoon of Muhammad and you get beheaded or shot. It’s a matter of fear, it’s not respect.” [Real Clear Politics]

But apologizing will never be enough for the radical Islamists who want us dead.

And we’d all be much safer if our sorry President realized that.

Why I’m not watching Oscar

I’m not planning to watch the Academy Awards tonight. I know, it’s often a great show with great entertainment. But, as in many years past, I’ve seen none of the Best Picture nominees. And I knew I wouldn’t get through the recommended list.

It’s not that I don’t like watching movies. I love movies. But with the cost of actually getting to the theater, and with Netflix going stupid on me, I don’t get a chance to see many current movies.

So, watching tonight I’d be kind of lost. Not to mention up too late.

It might be fun just to watch the opening with Billy Crystal. But then I’d be hooked. It’s all or nothing.

Look, I don’t have some superiority complex where I think not watching makes me better than those who watch. But I can just as easily see the list of winners in the morning. And it won’t be long before the highlights hit YouTube.

Funny, last year around this time I set a new goal to see all of the best picture Oscar winners from the beginning. That was, of course, before Netflix went stupid. Oh wait, I already said that.

But I still want to get through that list. Eventually.

Maybe I should start tonight. Where’s the closet Red Box?
