Star Trek Doohan’s Ashes Launched Into Orbit

Yes, at long last and after a last-second scuttling over the weekend, the SpaceX Falcon 9 blasted off at 3:44 a.m. this morning from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. The rocket, owned/funded by the privately held company Space Exploration Technologies, a/k/a SpaceX, is headed toward the International Space Station, carrying 1,000-plus pounds of supplies for the station’s crew, as well as the ashes of more than 300 people, among them Doohan, Star Trek’s beloved Scotty, who passed away in 2005, and Mercury program astronaut Gordon Cooper.

Hurricane Tax Free weekend doesn’t cover the essentials

Governor Bob McDonnell has announced that Virginians can save 5 percent on designated Emergency Supplies May 25-31.

That’s good since Tropical Storm Alberto showed up two weeks early.

But the problem with the acceptable items for tax exempt status is that the list does not include the essentials.

Here’s what you really need for a Hurricane:

Ingredients:
2 oz light rum
2 oz dark rum
2 oz passion fruit juice
1 oz orange juice
juice of a half a lime
1 Tbsp simple syrup
1 Tbsp grenadine
orange slice and cherry for garnish
Preparation:
Squeeze juice from half a lime into shaker over ice.
Pour the remaining ingredients into the cocktail shaker.
Shake well.
Strain into a hurricane glass.
Garnish with a cherry and an orange slice.

Maybe if the ABC Stores were privatized?
