Wait, you mean it wasn’t a dream?

The real question now, with the margin of victory as large as it is, will McDonnell have a mandate?
Contests serve as warning to Democrats: It’s not 2008 anymore
The Washington Post
On Tuesday, Virginia moved back in the direction of Republicans, a reminder that the political landscape is far more fluid than it appeared to be a year ago — and a challenge for the White House and the Democrats as they look toward 2010.
Dems, incumbents get wake-up call
Politico
Tuesday night’s trends were emphatically not in Obama’s favor. Among those paying closest attention are dozens of Democrats who won formerly Republican congressional districts in 2006 and 2008 and are up for re-election in 2010.
The Obama magic has faded
The New York Post
And — until it started looking as if they might lose — the Obama people were suggesting that these races would seal their mandate and encourage congressional wafflers to toe the line on health-care reform. Not so much, as it turns out.
Disregard The Talk Of VA Voting Against The President’s Party For Gov.

Do you see a pattern emerging here? When GOP candidates run on specific issues of importance to people in their every day lives, they not only win, but they win BIG.

Washington Post: Character Assassins
We told you it was an orchestrated smear campaign:
WaPo Ratchets Up Attacks on Republican Bob McDonnell; Six Articles in Four Days
Scott Whitlock, NewsBusters
The Washington Post on Wednesday increased its frenzied attack on Virginia gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell, featuring two stories in the paper’s Metro section, an op-ed and a cartoon. Including opinion pieces, the Post has delivered six articles in four days on the Republican’s 1989 master’s thesis about families and government policy.
Here are the articles (so far). It’s important to note that the headlines are more inflammatory than the actual articles.

McDonnell Tries to Salvage Women’s Votes
Thesis Issue Builds, McDonnell Tries to Move On
The Macaca Thesis, Editorial

This is a pattern for the Washington Post. They did it to George Allen in 2006. They did it to Sarah Palin in 2008.
Of course, once they’ve destroyed the Republican, they’ll apologize. Sort of.

Balance and Bias on the Political Beat, Deborah Howell
The macaca coverage went on too long, and a profile of Allen was relentlessly negative without balancing coverage of what made him a popular governor and senator.

An Obama Tilt in Campaign Coverage, Deborah Howell
The Post provided a lot of good campaign coverage, but readers have been consistently critical of the lack of probing issues coverage and what they saw as a tilt toward Democrat Barack Obama. My surveys, which ended on Election Day, show that they are right on both counts.
Will they get away with it this time? That depends on you and me.
SWAC Girl has an excellent summary today: Examiner and others begin “macaca watch” on WaPost
Don’t hold your breath waiting for the Washington Post to look into past writings from Creigh Deeds or to do an indepth study of his voting record. And don’t wait for them to demand accountability from Barack Obama who refuses to release his college thesis from Columbia University or his academic records from Occidental College, Columbia University or Harvard Law School.

WaPo Opens Jihad Against McDonnell
Christian Toto, Human Events
Can the Post serve as a political kingmaker again for the Old Dominion State? Or will a feisty alternative media rise up to stop any attempts to turn a college assignment into a campaign killer? And if so, why didn’t the paper pull out all the stops regarding another candidate’s past?
Is the Washington Post trying to ‘Macaca’ Bob McDonnell?
Michael Barone, The Washington Examiner
The obvious agenda here is to raise the specter that if McDonnell is elected, all women in Virginia will be fired from their jobs and forced to stay home knitting or driving car pool. We’ll see how much longer the Post can keep this story on the front page.

Left-Leaning Washington Post Goes After Bob McDonnell
84 Rules
I remember a junior Senator from Illinois who admitted to smoking pot and snorting cocaine, broke bread with admitted domestic terrorist Bill Ayers, sat in a church pew for 20 years listening to the racial, bigoted, anti-semetic and anti-American hatred of Rev. Wright and admitted that his goal was to redistribute wealth, or as he put it, “spread the wealth.” What I don’t remember is the Washington Post or any other leftist news outlet ever bothering to cover these stories.

You can’t expect the Washington Post to still believe something they wrote…eleven weeks ago

The Washington Post Editorial Board
It’s day three of The Washington Post’s Macaca Reunion Tour and Anita Kumar is apparently calling conservatives and asking them how they feel about Bob McDonnell’s “flip flop” on his thesis. Not that Anita actually paid attention to what McDonnell said on his 90 minute conference call yesterday.
But if Anita is looking for flip flops, she need do nothing more than trot down the hall to the Editorial Board.
We explain:
“Democrats in turn will try to depict former attorney general Robert F. McDonnell, the Republican nominee, as a right-wing zealot and Pat Robertson protégé. In fact, both candidates are serious public servants with long records that deserve more careful examination … Mr. McDonnell’s tenure as attorney general, by most accounts, has been professional and not overtly ideological.”
Editoral, The Washington Post
June 11, 2009
That was then, this is now:
“Bob McDonnell … would make a divisive, disruptive and partisan governor — a sharp departure from the tradition of generally pragmatic executives who have helped make Virginia one of the better-managed states in the union.”
Editorial, The Washington Post
September 1, 2009
So it’s pretty clear that either The Washington Post changed their opinion in just a short eleven weeks, something they assert that Bob McDonnell couldn’t do in more than 20 years…
Or, the Post is trying once again to destroy the Republican candidate. Their incessant posting of “macaca” in 2006 was highly damaging to George Allen, well after Allen had apologized.
Let’s be clear, The Wasington Post isn’t a news media outlet. It’s a propaganda rag for the left.
And, as the RPV so masterfully explains: Plunging Deeds Poll Numbers Change Post’s Tune
Simply put, this is yet another attempt by The Washington Post, the DPV and the Deeds Campaign to destroy a man who has given his life in service to his country and his state. A man of faith and integrity.
A man who is still leading in the polls. And they just can’t stand it.
Don’t let them get away with it.
Allen’s record of women appointments better than Kaine’s
You’d be surprised which of our last four Governors had the better record on the appointment of women.
