What are you doing New Year’s Eve?

If you read here often, and I assure you that you should, you know that I will finish 2015 having been in rehearsals or production work for my next show on all 365 days.

This New Year’s Eve my family and I will be a part of a new, never before experienced production called “Fairies and Gentlemen.’

It’s a game within a party within a play.

A Merry Assortment presents “Fairies & Gentlemen,”

a unique theatrical event and all-around party on New Year’s Eve

“It’s New Year’s Eve, 1909, and your parents have left you at home to go to a fancy party. So what do you do? Use your imagination! That’s what the Shippley sisters have done – and you’re invited to the most incredible, whimsical and delightful party that you’ve ever attended – as they make it up, all night long…”

Guests will have the chance to be a part of the fantastical evening that the Shippley sisters create to their liking – which means plenty of dancing and plenty of dessert. This will include rare opportunities to try Edwardian-appropriate dances, English country dance and Scottish ceilidh dancing, all in the same evening. Desserts are being commissioned from some of Richmond’s finest artisan desserteries, including custom flavors created exclusively for this event. A champagne toast (with non-alcoholic beverages also available) will take place at midnight.

Guests will also have the chance to participate in the goings-on by playing the party game of Foolery, which invites players to act out humorous suggestions with cast and other guests alike. The best players even get to decide how the plot of the evening will end!

This unique event takes place on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2015 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church which is located at 1214 Wilmer Ave, Richmond, VA 23227. (The event is an independent production and is not affiliated with the church.) Doors open at 7:30 p.m., with the festivities officially commencing at 8:00 sharp.

All-inclusive tickets are $50 per individual ticket; $45 per person when purchasing a couple’s admission ($90 a pair); and $40 for students and groups of 8 or more. The event is appropriate for individuals 12 years of age and up. Tickets and more detailed information can be found here.
