American actor, comedian, writer and producer Dick Van Dyke was born on this day in 1925. He is well known for his television roles in The Dick Van Dyke Show with Mary Tyler Moore and later in Diagnosis Murder. His film roles include Bye Bye Birdie, Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Van Dyke will receive The Life Achievement Award at the annual Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony in January.
Canadian born Christopher Plummer made his film debut in Stage Struck in 1958, but is most widely remembered as Captain von Trapp in The Sound of Music. Plummer won the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Beginners in 2012. He has also received two Tony Awards and two Emmys. He played the Klingon General Chang in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country in 1991.
