People we love: Sir Ian Holm

Sir Ian Holm, CBE, Born September 12, 1931

Born on this day in 1931.

Bilbo Baggins…we loved British actor Ian Holm in that role in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and we can’t wait to see him reprise the role in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. We also loved him for his role as Sam Mussabini in Chariots of Fire which earned him an a special award at Cannes Film Festival and an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor.

Sir Ian has a long and distinguished career in both stage and film having already established himself as a star with the Royal Shakespeare Company before playing Richard III in BBC’s Wars of the Roses in 1965.

In 1967 he won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play as Lenny in The Homecoming by Harold Pinter.
