But I Still Can’t Grow Oleander Here

so today in The Washington Post I see that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has released a new Plant Hardiness Zone Map. My area of Chesterfield is slightly warmer.

But it’s still not warm enough for Oleander.

I love this plant. There’s a huge bush of it at the house we usally rent (that belongs to a family member) in the Outer Banks. A few years back I took cuttings of the bush and brought back. The cuttings rooted and I brought them in for the winter. They survived the winter and the next summer, but for reasons I couldn’t explain didn’t make it through the next winter indoors.

I think if I’m going to have this in my yard, I’m just going to have to move further south.

  1. Isn’t that plant really poisonous?

Yes it’s poisonous. You have to be careful after handling it.
